Christmas is coming..........

Christmas is coming and we have been getting ready in Room 23!

Our classroom is beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

We have got our Christmas tree up. We think it looks really cool as the lights twinkle in the dark.

We also made a Christmas Tree using our hands and some green paint!

We have our class crib on display too.

The girls in Room 23 are feeling very excited in the run up to Christmas and we are all looking forward to it.

Advent

We had our Advent Assembly this week where we explained about the Advent Wreath and that this is the second week of Advent.

We lit the second purple candle which the girls said symbolises peace. The girls said a special prayer and sang the Advent song.

Later, some of the girls got to go to the Cathedral to see the Advent Wreath.

This morning, Room 23 got the chance to visit the mobile cinema where a science professor demonstrated some very interesting science experiments for us.

We learned about how a rocket ship works along with some other very interesting facts.

To top it all off we got a chance to watch two other ‘scientists’, Wallace and Gromit. They made some very interesting inventions.

Story Nana read us some very interesting stories about an old lady who ate a scrumptious chocolate bun.

What a busy few weeks!

We have had a busy few weeks in Room 23.

Before our Halloween break we were busy learning about 2-D shapes in Maths and we drew some 2-D shapes on our class pumpkin.

Can you remember the names of all the different shapes?

We learned about what life was like at home for our grandparents when they were young.

We even interviewed them. Some of the girls were surprised that their grandparents had to share their rooms with their brothers and sisters.

The girls were shocked that there was very little TV to watch and no computer games!

Instead of playing, we learned that many of our grandparents had to work on the farm at home. It wasn’t all work though. We learned some old traditional games that our grandparents used to play. We tried out a game of “In and Out the Dusty Bluebells”, “Grandmothers Footsteps”, and “Duck, Duck, Goose!”

We dressed up in our Halloween costumes on the day of our Halloween holidays.

We helped raise money for Childline. We all had a bowl of Cheerios to help raise money for the charity.

1916 Easter Rising Centenary

Wednesday will be a very special day for us in St. Clare’s.

The army will be arriving to present our school with the Irish flag and we will be given a copy of the proclamation too.

This is all part of the upcoming 1916 Easter Rising centenary celebrations for next year.

When we are presented with the flag and proclamation, we will sing our National Anthem, “Amhrán na bhFiann”.

We have been listening to it and singing it over the last few days.

Here is a link to Amhrán na bhFiann, so you can practise.

Relaxation

We started our relaxation today.

We learned about some different breathing exercises that can help us to unwind and de-stress.

Don’t forget to wear PE tracksuits on Mondays.
